Inter Wellbeing’s mission is to make a difference to everyone’s health and wellbeing. Enabling and inspiring people to talk about and raise awareness of mental health issues that we can all face day to day or at some point in our life. It’s ok not to be ok!

Mental Health in the Workplace

Mental ill health costs UK employers £34.9 billion each year. This is broken down into £21.2 billion due to reduced productivity, £10.6 billion Sickness absence and £3.1 Billion in staff turnover due to people leaving their jobs for mental health reasons. (MHFA England Website www.MHFAengland.org)

The economic cost of mental health is estimated to be £105.2 billion each year in England (centre of mental health 2010) this includes direct cost of services, lost productivity at work and reduced quality of life.

Mental ill Health is the largest cause of disability in the UK. (WHO 2008)

Mental ill health, including stress, depression and anxiety, is thought to be responsible for £91 million lost working days each year, more than any other illness.

Young People and Mental Health

  • 20% of primary school children experience a low sense of well being.
  • 10% of young people  aged 5-16 experience a diagnosable mental health disorder.
  • Suicide is the 2nd most common cause of death in males for 10-24 year olds. (ONS 2012)
  • A record number of children contacted Childline with suicidal thoughts in 2016/2017.

Anyone who works with young people will have an idea of the struggles and pressures they may be facing. YMHFA (Youth Mental Health First Aid) is suitable for any adult who works with young people, whether you work in a school environment or a sports club or youth/leisure centre.
